Dealing with head lice
So you got the note from
your child’s school that head lice has been going around and
they noticed a few nits on your child – maybe you have even
noticed them yourself, in this article we will explore some
ways to deal with head lice and what you can do to treat it.
The very first step in dealing with head lice is not to
panic. Panicking can only lead to unnecessary drama and who
wants that? Also, panicking about the head lice will not
treat it and kill it, so calm yourself down for a few
minutes and then confirm that your child does indeed have
head lice. There are many different symptoms that you can
look for when it comes to head lice, the first being a
constant scratching from your kid to the point of little
sores developing along their scalp, back of the ears and
back of the neck. If you need help in identifying head lice
themselves, head lice pictures will give you an idea of what
you are searching for.
The next step is the treatment. Now, this is usually the
hardest part because your child needs to be completely
stripped of their clothing, wrapped in a towel and the head
lice treatment needs to stay on for roughly eight to twelve
hours. This is a great time to treat them, wrap their head
in plastic and get them into bed – this way; the treatment
is not disturbed at all. When you rinse the treatment out,
be sure that you do not use any crème rinse or conditioner,
as this counteracts the treatment. You also will want to
wash all of their clothing and bedding so you know that the
infestation is gone completely.
Once the treatment is done, that does not mean that all of
the head lice are out of your child’s head. You will still
need to check their head every few days to ensure that the
treatment did work and that you do not have to retreat them.
If you do have to retreat them, just repeat the steps above
and you should have no more issues.
As you can see, head lice is a pesky and annoying hassle
that parents sometimes need to deal with – just remember to
not panic, keep calm and treat the head lice as soon as
possible and your child should not experience anymore issues
with these pesky parasites.
