Headlice - Homemade
Remedies Are Available

Over the years people have
devised a lot of home remedies for head lice. One of the
best of these homemade concoctions is as follows: For
shorter hair, mix about a half cup of mayo with some vinegar
in a bowl until it's the consistency of cake batter. Add 8
drops of tea tree oil and stir well. Separate your hair into
1" sections, and apply the mixture liberally to the scalp
area and the strands of hair. Repeat the process until
you've covered your entire head. Don't worry about the
smell. When you shampoo the smell will go away.
Working your way up from the back of the head is easier. If
your hair is long, wrap it and clip it on top. Place a
shower cap or plastic bag over your hair and remove the air
by pressing down on the bag. 2 hours is the minimum amount
of time you need to leave it on.
Take your spray bottle and
fill it about three-quarters of the way with water. Then
drop about 20 drops of tea tree oil into the bottle. Shake
the bottle until the solution is well-mixed. While waiting
for your hair to process, you can take your spray bottle and
treat your carpeting, upholstered furniture, bedding,
clothing, and anything else where lice might live. You don't
need to saturate carpets and furniture. A light misting over
the entire surface will be enough.
Head lice, ticks, fleas,
and other insect pests totally hate the smell of tea tree
oil which also makes it an excellent spray repellant to use
on pets. By adding 5-10 drops of tea tree oil to your
child's shampoo, you'll make sure that even though your
child is with children who have head lice, he or she won't
be likely to pick it up from them. Head lice will actually
avoid them.
After two hours, rinse the
hair in a sink with water until the water runs clear. At
this point you will see dead headlice lying on top of the
hair as you rinse. It will amaze you. Now you need to comb
threw the hair with a headlice comb to remove the dead bugs
as well as the eggs. The eggs will come out so easy because
the vinegar eats away the glue that holds the eggs onto the
hair. If you need to, you can rinse with conditioner before
combing.
After these very simple
steps you and your home will remain lice free. As with any
lice treatment you will want to repeat these steps 7-10 days
after the first treatment, to make certain that no lice eggs
have survived. You will want to keep spraying the oil and
water mix around your house just incase someone comes to
your home with lice. This treatment is the fastest,
cheapest, easiest, and unlike the others it is 100%.
