Lice is One of Parent’s Biggest Fears
There are many different
forms of lice, whether it be head lice, body lice or sea
lice – in this article, we will explore head lice and what
louse are exactly.
Head lice are one of the biggest fears that parents have for
their children and although a head louse does not spread
disease, it is still uncomfortable to deal with. Most people
have no idea exactly what a head louse is and why their
children end up getting it. First and foremost, a getting
head louse is not due to you or your child being dirty as
many of the common rumors state. It does not matter how many
showers you take in a day or how many times you wash your
hair, head lice can survive even when submerged under water
and is extremely contagious.
Head lice themselves are small and white parasites that have
no wings. In a nut shell, these buggers live and feed off a
human scalp and multiply like there is no tomorrow. There
are many different ways that you can avoid your children
catching head lice. For one, you will need to absolutely
monitor what they are doing – be sure there is no
hair-to-hair or head-to-head contact between the children.
This alone will eliminate some of the risk, but not all of
it.
For second, you will need to be sure to educate your
children about not sharing items. Clothing, grooming
supplies (brushes and combs), hats, scarves, coats and hair
ribbons are some of the leading causes of head lice
spreading from one child to another. You just need to keep
in mind that head lice is extremely contagious and can
pretty much spread by any infected item touching a
non-infected head.
Finally, if your children do get infected with head lice, it
is not the end of the world, there are many, many different
treatments available and you should be able to have it
cleared up in a matter of weeks. Some things you want to
keep in mind when you are treating head lice is that you
will have to treat not only the infect head, but also the
bedding, clothing and carpet. A head louse can live up to
one week off of a human scalp so a quick vacuum and spray
treatment of the room will really ensure that the head lice
are completely gone.
There are all of the tips and tricks to not only prevent of
also treat head lice – keep your child educated about not
sharing their items, watch over their activities and be sure
if they do get infected with head lice to treat it right
away – that’s it!
