Lice prevention, how to protect your child
Head lice is one of those
things that you, as a parent, absolutely hate and will try
to protect your child from at all costs, in this article we
will outline a few tips to prevent your child from getting
head lice.
The first step in keeping your child away from head lice is
to monitor their activities; you want to be sure that they
are avoiding head-to-head and hair-to-hair activities. You
will need to watch any sports, especially soccer and
wrestling that does not have your child wearing a helmet.
Also, you will need to be careful of slumber parties and
camps – talk to the other parents and be sure that their
child does not have head lice before letting your kid sleep
over. Most camps now-a-day have a nurse check each and every
head for head lice, so you should be okay there.
Another thing that you will want to watch is that your child
is not trading or sharing clothing, hats, brushes, coats,
hair ribbons or barrettes with any other child – the use of
things in hair or hats on top of a head is a great way to
spread head lice from one head to another. Be sure to keep
your children’s clothing clean and warn them about the
dangers of sharing clothing and other items with other
children.
You may also want to warn them about laying down on another
child’s bed, couch or stuffed animals if the child has been
recently infected20with head lice. This is another excellent
way for head lice to transfer from a pillow, stuffed animal
or bed linen onto your child’s head, so be sure to warn them
of these dangers.
Finally, if you child does end up getting head lice, it is
not the head of the world – it is simply annoying.
Treatments are available all over and head lice, while not
simple to get rid of is not going to spread disease and is
more of an annoyance than anything.
There are the prevents you can do to help your child not
become infected with head lice – monitor their activities,
tell them not to trade/share clothing and other items and
warn them about head lice in general.
The more knowledgeable your child is, the better off you
will be. So fill your child up with knowledge when it comes
to head lice – this could really help control and prevent
these parasites from entering your home.
