Treating your home for Head Lice
Your child has come home
and informed you that he/she has head lice, your first
instinct is probably to treat them right away and that is
definitely the first thing that you should do but what about
the rest of your house, in this article we will go through
some of the items that you will want to treat for head lice
so the infestations does not happen again.
One of the very first things that you should do after you
have treated your child’s head is to strip her bedding. This
is usually where a lot of the infestation happens and
develops, so washing every piece of bedding is a great idea.
Head lice can not survive in a degree that is above one
hundred and twenty five, so using hot water is a must. If
you are washing multiple loads, be sure that you wait in
between them so your hot water can refill itself to the
disinfesting temperature.
Things that you can not place in the washer such as: combs,
hair brushes and hair accessories will need to be placed in
a vat of hot water. The water must be above the degree
specified above, otherwise the head lice can survive and the
infestation could start all over again. Leave the items in
the hot water for a minimum of ten minutes to ensure that
you killed all of the head lice.
While you do not necessarily have to fumigate any rooms or
use any insecticidal sprays, it is recommended that you
thoroughly vacuum your entire house. A head louse can not
last off a human scalp for more than two days, so vacuuming
any head lice up would immediately eliminate the chance of
your child getting another infestation of head lice. You
will also want to be sure that you are not just vacuuming
the floors, but also vacuuming any furniture that the
infested person may have sat on or used – this will prevent
anyone else from getting infested with head lice.
As you can see, if you child does develop a case of head
lice, it is definitely not a time to panic, head lice can
not last too long off of a human scalp and as long as you
follow use this article as a reference if your child does
happen to get head lice, you should have no problems with
de-infesting your home, just remember to dip and wash items
in hot water, vacuum everything thoroughly.
